How Your Internet Home Business Benefits From The Social Bookmarking

Sunday, February 8th, 2009
The social bookmarking means that the internet home business owner joins some bookmarking sites, like del.icio.us, Diigo, Frul, Magnolia, Netvouz, StumbleUpon, reddit, Digg or Newsvine and submit his site to there tagging it with the related keyphrases.

This tagging is the key issue, the group members can find the related site by using these tags. This makes this system interesting for the home business, because through these tags the totally new kind of groups can be born.

Additionally the links spread automatically meaning a lot of new backlinks. The members can follow the happenings in the community by subscribing the web feed using tags or the set of tags.

The system is very easy to use. If a business owner sees an interesting site, he can bookmark it to the social bookmarking site by right clicking, put the related keywords, and it is done. Now other members can use this finding and bookmark it also.

Earlier when bookmarking was private, others could not use it, but the great benefit of the social bookmarking is that it is a shared information, it is public. It also make it possible to build the same thinker groups, which will help each other.

The same thinker group is always a very helpful but there is also a big need to get the respect from other members. This is the strong power, which makes the mutual information deeper. Each of the members look the topic from his own angle, so there will be a huge amount of perspectives. This is the advantage by which the social bookmarking site beats the search engines.

One more benefit, the tagging is informal, so the system is more creative and brings up new niches. Note that also emails and multimedia are included and can be tagged in the same way.

My dear reader, if you really want to expand your presence in the Net by a new tactic, the social bookmarking is it.

I have used one tactic, which worked extremely well, I tell it you now. Start by writing a blog post by using related keywords and all necessary SEO tricks. Use the bold, underline and italic font type once for the main keyword.

Then write an article using the same keyword and the blog post address in the bio box pointing back to your blog. Distribute the article to the article directories and websites using some effective submission service.

Then just distribute your blog post to several social bookmarking sites using some automated submitting service. As a result your blog post can climb into the first page of the Google result page.

You see, the social bookmarking sites can be useful in many ways: they bring to your site or blog the traffic, they build backlinks and they will spread your link automatically wider and wider. That`s good for the business.

Why Webmasters Should Love Social Bookmarking

Saturday, February 7th, 2009
Like most webmasters, you might not even know what social bookmarking is, let alone how you can use it to increase your website leads, sales, subscribers and even your repeat visitors. Get ready to ride the next wave of Internet marketing.

Everyone knows that a bookmark is a piece of paper that marks a page so you can find it easily again. Most people know that a computer bookmark is a link on your computer that marks a web page so you can find it easily again.

A social bookmark is a link that marks a web page so you can find it easily again, but also so you can share it with others, usually by posting it to one of several dozen social-bookmarking websites.

Social bookmarking is all the rage these days, with websites like Del.icio.us and Digg commanding a presence among the top traffic generators on the Internet. People like to bookmark their “finds” and they like to show off their “fiends” to others. Hence bookmarking, hence social bookmarking.

Webmasters hoping to capture the attention of today’s Internet user should head the signs and recognize the phenomenal opportunity presented by social bookmarking. In a follow-up article, I will explain the “how-to”s, but here are five ways a website can benefit from social bookmarking.

REPEAT VISITORS: Considering that many people do not buy/register/contact/take action on their first visit to your website, repeat visitors are a necessity (not to mention laser-targeted prospects!) You can get more repeat visitors to your website if they can find your website again. That means getting them to bookmark your website, either on their computer or on the social bookmarking site of their choice. The more bookmarking options you offer, the more visitors are likely to return. The easier you make it for them to bookmark your site, the more of them will. However, you really must have quality content, or nobody will want to bookmark your page.

VIRAL BOOKMARKING: When somebody bookmarks your website on their own computer, they share it with, well, themselves. It’s a private thing. But when they bookmark a web page on a social bookmarking, it’s more “social”. Other people will see it. Other people might share it. Other people might even bookmark it. Websites like Del.icio.us, Ma.gnolia and SpicyPage are ideal for this. In fact, many of the biggest users of a social bookmark website are often users of several. However, you really must have quality content, or nobody will care that somebody else has bookmarked your page.

VIRAL LINKING: When somebody sees your link at a social bookmarking website, they might bookmark it…or they might add it to their own blog or portal or fan site. Suddenly one person’s bookmark becomes several links to your website, presumably from reasonably well-targeted sources of traffic. However, you really must have quality content, or nobody will want to blog somebody else’s bookmark.

SEO-FRIENDLY LINKS: Many of the social bookmarking websites offer no direct SEO value. The links might feature the NoFollow attribute. Or the mea robots tag might be set to NoFollow. Or your bookmarks might not show on unique URLs. Os the links might use a redirect script that search engine spiders don’t follow. But there are some social bookmarking websites that offer SEO-friendly links.

SEO-FRIENDLY LINKS ELSEWHERE: Even if a link from a social bookmarking website is not SEO-friendly, don’t underestimate its SEO potential. There is a whole industry growing just to game Digg and Del.icio.us, knowing that if a website’s bookmark can stick on the home page for an hour or two, it will mean dozens or even hundreds of inbound links from reasonably relevant blogs and portals and fan sites. And this is natural linking, the kind that search engines love! However, you really must have quality content, or whose going to post a link to your website just because they found it bookmarked?

Why Social Bookmarking Is A Great Way To Deliver Small Business Information

Friday, February 6th, 2009
If you have a small business, and are looking for ways to get information about it on the Internet, You should consider social bookmarking. Of course, along with that we have to discuss blogging first of all.

If you do not have a blog set up for your small business, then you are missing out on an excellent opportunity to attract readers and potential customers. The best way to set up a small business blog is to use the WordPress platform and host it yourself.

If you are not comfortable setting this up, you can outsource the initial installation to people such as the Blog Builder or just go to eLance and ask around. You will find that you can get a new blog set up for less than $100 and now you’re ready to go to work.

Each blog post group represents a potential opportunity for you to promote your business on the Internet and invest nothing more than your time. One of the plug-ins that comes with the WordPress blog is a social bookmarking plug in.

This makes it very easy for you to bookmark each blog article directly to some of the top social directories online with just a couple of clicks. We are talking about bookmarking your article to directories such as Technorati, Digg, Propeller, Stumble Upon, Google Bookmarks, and so on.

Bookmarking a blog post serves two purposes.

First of all it gives you an opportunity to get traffic from the blog directories themselves. Many of these directories contain links specifically for business information.

By writing articles, and bookmarking to them, you stand a chance to pick up readers of your article which then will be linked directly to your blog URL.

Secondly, you stand an excellent chance to create search engine bait with your blog post. The more of these you get out to the better chance you have for search engines to spider the social directories and then come right to your blog itself.

By using blogging and combining it with social bookmarking you are developing your small business information online where people can find it. This is smart business and it is also very cost effective.

Even if you personally do not like the blog you can hire blog writers and pay them anywhere from $5-$10 per article to write content for your small business information blog.

This should give you a few excellent ideas why social bookmarking is a great way to deliver small business information on the Internet today.

Social Bookmarking is an Integral Part of Website Promotion

Sunday, February 1st, 2009
Web 2.0 is beginning to change the way Internet users and web developers view the World Wide Web. Just five years ago, web pages were much like pages in a book that we viewed at our leisure. Blogs, forums, intranets and community portals like Youtube were primarily for techies and early adopters. Now, almost everyone who has used a computer has participated in one of these interactive environments.

The moral of the story is: The Web is becoming much more interactive. Web surfers from anywhere in the world can often comment on and share material that they have viewed online almost instantly. Internet marketers can capitalize on this growing phenomenon. Studies of consumer behavior have consistently documented that interactive ads convert much better than passive forms of advertising.

The use of social bookmarking widgets such as Addthis and the ubiquitous Digg buttons allow you to convert your website content into promotional content at the click of a button. How does this work? Let’s say that you operate a political blog where you comment on important political news in the media. At the end of every blog that you write, an AddThis bookmarking widget is automatically inserted.

Now, when a visitor wants to comment or share this blog, all she has to do is click on the button and choose her favorite bookmarking community such as Delicious, Technorati, Digg, or Squidoo. Depending on the bookmarking service she chooses, she may have to enter a short description or vote for or against the article. This visitor has just promoted your site for you! She has published an active link back to your website from a bookmarking site that is heavily indexed by Google. Not only does this bring targeted human traffic right to your doorstep, it also greatly aids in search engine optimization for your site since it increases your “authority” in the eyes of the search engines.

A couple of months ago, I decided to integrate the AddThis bookmarking widget into one of my newer websites. I added the simple javascript code to one page in my article directory. I then encouraged all the authors who submitted articles to my directory to bookmark their own articles.

The results of these actions were immediate. The pages that were bookmarked had many more page views than the ones that were not. They brought in many visitors from Digg and Delicious. The articles that were the most popular (and naturally had the most page views) were indexed higher in Google’s search results. This benefits both the article author and me because his article reaches a greater audience which allows him to further promote himself and his website.

There are now more than 300 social bookmarking communities - although only ten or so will bring you lots of traffic. It is easy and quick to join these sites and start using this free and effective promotional strategy. Bookmarking widgets such as AddThis and other popular buttons from Digg, Technorati, Squidoo, and many others can easily be integrated into almost any website. If you require more information on the benefits of social bookmarking, there are thousands of forums, blogs and article directories you can start searching in.

‘Social Bookmarking’ As An Aggressive and Acceptable Blog Marketing Tactic

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Social bookmarking websites are becoming more and more popular. They allow you to save bookmarks online and Tag/Categorize them with keywords instead of saving them as bookmarks in the favorite’s list of your browser. This is particularly useful when your browser based bookmarks have become unwieldy. It’s also help since you can access your bookmarks from any computer where you have an internet connection.

I have compiled a list of Social Bookmarking websites from a number of sources. You can find it in the resource box at the end of this article.

Once you have bookmarked them, you can view them, sort them by category/keyword as well as see links from others that have been categorized like yours.

You also establish RSS feeds for each category (tag) that you ’subscribe’ to. This alerts you to new links in your areas of interest. Your bookmark collection/RSS Feed becomes viewable to others who can also copy your bookmarks to their own collection. So now you can aggressively promote your RSS feed to the RSS Directories and Search engines, syndicate them and make them available to a much wider audience.

Social bookmarking sites also help you to meet other people who are interested in the same topics you are and who may also have knowledge of web resources that you don’t.

On Social Bookmarking sites, you first create an account. Then you bookmark interesting and useful things in the area of your interest or expertise. By doing so you create a useful Feed. Once you’ve done that you intermittently, (or aggressively), add useful and interesting items, (that could use additional exposure), from your own content. Make an honest effort to contribute USEFUL information and links. This is all about sharing and exposure. Done properly, you can be as aggressive as you want to be about sharing information. You can share your blog(s), links to your informational/resource sites etc. Think about the fact that when you share links to other’s resources, you’re also effectively promoting their content as well.

This is a way you can aggressively and ethically promote your content and the content of others. I personally have hundreds of gigabytes of my own information and information of others, connected to my notebook. In the final analysis, it’s doing me no good what-so-ever just sitting there. But by organizing it, online, I can help myself, (getting organized, getting my content exposed, etc.) and help others at the same time.

If you spice up your feed with too much sales and marketing related or self promotional stuff, people can and will easily drop their subscription to your feed. And instead of gaining good will and doing a service to the internet community you could get labeled as a spammer and suffer the consequences.

So while being aggressive is possible and acceptable, being careful to consider the best interest of the community is certainly warranted.

Balancing being ethical and providing a useful service to others with promoting your own content enables you to be as aggressive as you like. But remember, in the final analysis, others will make the decision on whether it’s ethical and useful or spam.
