Social Bookmarking is Bait for the Search Engines

Friday, November 16th, 2007
Social bookmarking is the best way to boost traffic for a site. Social bookmarking is a powerful tool in promoting a website. The ideas that social bookmarking is built on are working their way into other applications; the practice of tagging information is being extended to other types of resources, such as multimedia files and e-mail. Social bookmarking is saving us a lot of time and energy that we’d usually spend scanning our RSS feeds or (the shock and horror of it all) actually visiting sites daily to find out what’s hot in the industry we work in along with our other interests. Not learning about social bookmarking is nothing short of surrendering to a changing online world.

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata. Bookmarking is good for two things: Building more inbound links to your blog and driving traffic to your blog. Social bookmarking has become so competitive that people are asking for votes for every single thing that they put up on the Internet, which entirely defeats the purpose of the entire social bookmarking industry.

Yes, put up all of the content that you want on your blog or your website, but don’t clog up the social bookmarking system by voting for everything that comes your way, or asking for votes on every single thing that you write. People who are trying to become popular on all of these different websites are just compounding the problem by once again “clogging up” the social bookmarking system, not to mention annoying their social bookmarking friends by asking for votes on so many different websites all the time. If you really want to try out more than just 3 or 4 social bookmarking sites, then simply build up your presence in one community, and then move on to other communities later. Get involved in social bookmarking groups where all members agree to give due diligence to each other’s vote requests, and then manage the entire process via email. Adding friends on social bookmarking sites is nothing more than a “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” arrangement, and often that leads to seriously one-sided efforts.

Social bookmarking is a free and easy way to get loads of traffic to your website. Millions of people are abandoning traditional search engines and directories in favor of social bookmarking services. Digg is the most heavily-trafficked social bookmarking site (at the moment), followed closely by Stumbeupon. With regard to creating a high-quality search engine, a social bookmarking system has several advantages over traditional automated resource location and classification software, such as search engine spiders. And, making matters even sweeter for those in the know is the fact that successful mastery of the social bookmarking scene has Google advantages, too.

One thing is for sure: Social bookmarking is a technology whose time has come, and once corporate America discovers it, advertising will surely follow. Combination of article writing, blogging,RSS and social bookmarking is essential if you want targeted traffic to your site. Another valuable use of social bookmarking is to gain insight into how your brand is perceived by the users saving and tagging your (or your competitors) website or content. If your goal is traffic then blogging combined with social bookmarking is a guaranteed formula for success.

3 Ways To Maximize Your Social Bookmarking Efforts

Monday, November 12th, 2007
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make every day is how they finished off a blog post. When I talk about finishing off a blog post I’m really referring to social bookmarking it. In this article, let’s talk about 3 ways to maximize your social bookmarking efforts so you are getting the most out of each blog post that you possibly can.

A blog post can serve two purposes for your business. It can create content for your readers and it can serve as search engine bait as well.

It will not do that however if you do not take the time to bookmark each post when you are finished writing it. You stand an excellent chance to pick up new readers, if you will just take this extra step.

1. Social bookmarking a blog post can be easily done, if you are using WordPress is your blogging platform. The reason for this is they have a plug-in that allows you to quickly bookmark your post to some of the top online directories.

It will take a minute of your time to go and join these but at the very least I would suggest opening a free account with Stumbleupon, Digg, and Propeller. These three directories can bring you visitors every day when you bookmark your blog post to their social directory.

2. Another quick thing you can do is joining a list of directories at Onlywire.com. It’ll take you a few minutes to join over 20 of these, but once you do you can bookmark one blog post to all of them with one click.

This is a fantastic way to get your blog post into more directories quickly and create more search engine bait and free traffic.

3. The final thing I want to mention about social bookmarking your blog post is to be consistent in how you do it. Your real goal should be to post an article in your blog every day or several times a week.

You should also take the time to bookmark every post that you make regardless of the size of it. You never know when somebody is going to read something that interests them and lead him back to your blog.

You also never know what blog articles a search engine such as Google is going to pick up in rank you on page 1 for a targeted keyword.

In conclusion the way to maximize your social bookmarking efforts is to join the correct directories and then be consistent on your blogging and bookmarking habits.

What Is The Best Social Bookmarking Secret

Monday, November 12th, 2007
If you have a blog and you are not social bookmarking your articles you are making a big mistake. As a matter of fact, you are missing out on a tremendous amount of traffic and all of the benefits that go with it. It makes me wonder if this really is a secret that people are not aware of.

It shouldn’t be a secret of all but if it is let me dispel the that notion right now by saying that you should take a few minutes and social bookmark every blog post that you make. To rely strictly on blogging and pinging to get your post out into the marketplace is short changing yourself.

Promoting your blog is more than just making a blog post. Promoting your blog is taking the extra step to social bookmark it to the top directories in a couple of very simple ways.

The benefits of social bookmarking are many. First of all you really will get more traffic when people know that you have an article that they want to read.

If you social bookmark your article into a directory such as Stumble Upon you are going to find traffic coming to your blog from the back link created when you do that social bookmark. If you have any doubts about this install Google Analytics code into the footer of your blog file and watch where your traffic comes from.

Social bookmarking also gives you search engine bait because the search engines love blog posts. You have to be smart about how you do this in terms of keyword relevancy, but it makes sense a search engine will spider a directory such as Stumble Upon way before they will spider your own blog.

Every time a user can find your website you are making it easy for them to do. Once they get there they can bookmark your RSS feed and then be kept up to date every time you make a new post. But until they know about you they can never do that. This is what social bookmarking does for you.

Another interesting point is you are not limited in the number of times you can bookmark your posts. If you are writing interesting articles and stories these directories relish the fact that you are bookmarking those into their directory.

If you have any doubt about what the best social bookmarking secret is the answer is just do it. Bookmark every chance you get and you will benefit from it.
