Looking for a job, Church needs me to be Christian, is this legal?
rudeboi asked:
I am looking for a job. I saw a Church hiring for my type of profession. But in their application they state “Due to the unique nature and purpose of our organization, all employees are required to participate in ministry devotions and prayer. Also, each employee is expected to be able to share with business associates, guests and visitors about his or her experience of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In light of these facts, the following information is required as an occupational qualification.” Is this legal?

Yes. Churches are separate from the state, just as most want it to stay.
If someone is working in a church they need to be able to witness to someone who walks in, which happens very frequently.

Yes, that’s legal. It’s a non-profit religious organization.

yes, it’s legal. And if part of the qualifications are for you to share your Christian testimony and you dont have one, then how do you think you are really qualified for the job?

Yes, it’s called a bona fide occupation qualification. It allows discrimination where it normally would be illegal. See the link below.
If you aren’t a member of a church (or that church), I wouldn’t think you’d really want to work there anyway.
